Perspectives 2019

Welcome to Cushman & Wakefield’s Perspectives 2019. In this issue, we look at new opportunities being created across the board by shifts in the direction of UK real estate – from high street regeneration and regional infrastructure funding, to carbon net zero and the changes driven by online shopping. Our lead story begins by setting out the increasing investment into the UK’s alternative sectors and the demographic changes that are driving them, showing how investors can anticipate the needs of the UK population in the years to come. Also in this issue, in light of the recent spate of high street CVAs, we consider whether landlords could begin preferring local tenants to national names. We take a look at the broader survival pressures on the high street, explore the possible future effects of Internet shopping and outline opportunities for local authorities to tap into the government’s Towns Fund. We ask the head of the Cardiff Capital Region City Deal all about its innovative programme to boost growth in South East Wales, and examine the strategic regeneration opportunities in Leeds. Other opportunities, such as the industry’s potential to achieve carbon net zero and the importance of social value in development planning are explored in this edition. We’d be delighted to hear your perspective too – either directly or through social media using the hashtag # CWPerspectives. Enjoy the read, and please do get in touch, share and tweet!
